Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy Program (FLP)
Since 2006, ICON CDC has provided financial education workshops for both youth and adults through its Financial Literacy Program (FLP). Utilizing a community-based approach to organizing. ICON CDC leverages informal community spaces, such as churches, parent centers, businesses, and community centers, to reach out to the under-served population in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Individuals, families, and business owners participate in workshops which introduce them to basic elements of banking, credit, family budgeting, identity theft protection, and financial planning for the future. Workshops are lead by ICON CDC staff in both English and Spanish, with both curriculum and language tailored to the needs of each community. In addition to the year-round workshops, for the past two years, ICON CDC has partnered with local providers of summer youth employment programs to teach financial literacy courses to local young people between the ages of 14 – 24.
