The South Valley BusinessSource Center Helps Legalized Fruit Sidewalk Vendor Obtain $5,000 Grant

Congratulations to Glenda for being selected to receive a $5,000 grant from the City of Los Angeles’ COVID-19 Street Vending Recovery Fund, made available by the CARES Act in support from The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and The Los Angeles BusinessSource Centers. The award was offered to eligible and legalized Sidewalk Vendors in the City of Los Angeles in an effort to provide support for expenditures due to the public health emergency related to COVID-19.

Glenda is a fruit vendor who decided to launch her own business 8 years ago with support from her loved ones. Her success and guidance from the South Valley BusinessSource Center led her to obtain up to 3 legalized carts, and even helped others launch their own endeavors.

Like other Sidewalk Vendors, Glenda has struggled financially since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Stay At Home order and fear of catching the virus forced her to stop selling for a few months leaving her with very little income for her home.

Thankfully, her Business Coach from the South Valley BusinessSource Center Eric Lara informed her of the $5,000 Street Vending Recovery Fund and helped her submit the online application along with completing a W9 form. Business Coach Jessica Acevedo also assisted her with submitting banking information so she could receive funds successfully.

Glenda will be using the $5,000 grant to pay her permit renewals, and to cover most of her salary. If you wish to try Cristal Fresh Fruit, you can find them near Plaza Del Valle, 8610 Van Nuys Blvd in Panorama City or at 13510 Paxton St. in the Pacoima Plaza.
