Alive Fitness Partners with South Valley for Legacy Funding

Since opening in 2004, Alive Fitness has been a key health and wellness hub in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. Founded by Jason Cohen, a fitness veteran with over 30 years of experience, the gym stands out for its focus on community, inclusivity, and personal growth. Jason's vision was to create a space that fostered both physical fitness and a strong sense of belonging, making Alive Fitness more than just a gym.

The gym has evolved alongside Ventura Boulevard, which transformed from a modest strip into a bustling avenue. Initially the only gym in the area, Alive Fitness quickly became integral to the community’s development.

Jason takes pride in the gym's flexible model, which has hosted 80 to 100 trainers, supporting job creation and professional growth. This model ensures the gym remains versatile and inclusive, meeting a wide range of fitness needs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alive Fitness adapted by moving services outdoors to continue serving members safely. Despite these efforts, the pandemic led to a necessary relocation to 5522 Van Nuys Boulevard. Jason is working with South Valley Business Center to secure a Legacy grant and additional funds to enhance the new space and maintain the gym’s core values.

As Alive Fitness marks 20 years, Jason remains optimistic and committed to its mission of supporting individual fitness and well-being. With ongoing support from ICON CDC, he looks forward to continuing to meet the evolving needs of his diverse clientele.
